Yesterday when someone signed the energy conservation pledge or signed up to be an energy vampire slayer, their name was entered into a raffle to win a “smart” power strip. The following winners were randomly chosen:
Congrats! We hope you will use these energy-saving power strips as part of your overall energy conservation efforts on and off campus!
Don’t forget about the annual Landfill on the Lawn event happening this Friday under the careful design and leadership of OWRR’s Ben Kunka. Take advantage of this demonstration to see how many recycable items are thrown into the trash on a typical day. The mountain of trash will be on the lawn outside of the Stone building — just follow your nose — you won’t be able to miss the mess!
If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Jessica Trotman at firstname.lastname@example.org . You will need to wear closed-toe-shoes and be prepared to wear a white haz-mat suit that will be provided for you.
The conversation around sustainability has taken another step at UNCG. This fall interested students, faculty, and staff are invited to apply for a plot at UNCGreensboro Gardens located on McIver Street. Click on the link below to access a PDF version of the application, and stay tuned for updates and photos!
Sustainability might be a buzzword on some campuses, but here at UNCG it is the real thing. Check out this list of accomplishments for proof. Sustainability has been identified as a core value of the University, and Chancellor Brady has reiterated its importance in her fall convocation speech.
In order to help UNCG be as sustainable as possible, and create a culture on campus that fosters this goal on all levels, the Office of Sustainability has been created. This office will spearhead many of these efforts, following in the footsteps of the efforts that were developed out of the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. The Office of Sustainability will also work collaboratively with student lead organizations and clubs, as well as the University Committee on Sustainability and the Sustainability Council.
We look forward to a busy fall semester, full of new initiatives and opportunities for student involvement. This website will serve as a hub for events, information, and news from the Sustainability Office. Visit often, and become part of UNCG’s sustainability revolution!
