Sustainable Book Group : Spring Session

Thanks again to Sarah Dorsey for contributing to the blog!

Next semester we have decided to go with a more theoretical book, Green Metropolis:  Why Living Smaller, Living Closer, and Driving Less Are the Keys to Sustainability by David Owen.  Owen will be on campus March 20th for Harriet Elliott lecture entitled “Greening Greensboro: How the Sustainable Cities Movement Can Make Our City and Region More Livable.” Stay tuned for more info on that soon.

From the intro, just to whet your appetite:  “Most Americans, including most New Yorkers, think of New York City as an ecological nightmare, a wasteland of concrete and garbage and diesel fumes and traffic jams, but in comparison with the rest of America it’s a model of environmental responsibility.  In fact, by most significant measures, New York is the greenest community in the United States.”  Discuss!

Stay tuned to SUSTAIN-L for when we will be meeting next semester!  Happy holidays, all!
