Energy for the Holidays

Holidays make you use a lot of energy. So please try to remember these helpful hints when you are on break!

With all the packing that will begin to multiply from opening the gifts, please do remember to recycle what you can.

UNCG Recycling List:

  • Batteries
  • Ink Toner Cartridges
  • CDs/Floppy Discs
  • Electronics
  • Cell Phones
  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Plastics #1 and #2

Greensboro Recycling List:

  • Plastic Jugs and Bottles
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Newspaper
  • Catalogs and Magazines
  • Chipboard and Cardboard

If you are traveling this holiday season why not carpool with other members of your family, or try other alternative transportation like the bus system. If you are traveling home from school, check out, Zimride. It’s private to the UNCG School for people who are interested in carpooling. Fun way to meet new people and save the environment! http://ure.uncg.edu/prod/cweekly/2010/09/28/checkoutthatcar/

Hopefully, weather will catch up with the season and we will begin to turn our heat on. Make sure you set your thermostat at 68 degrees. It is a comfortable temperature and if you need a little more heat you can always opt to wear sweatshirts and socks! Think of the energy you are saving!

From everyone at the Office of Sustainability, we wish you have a very safe and enjoyable Holiday Season. Remember that it is easy to be green even when it’s the busiest time of the year!
